About the Ferrari F40 Competizione

The F40 Competizione is the last and most developed version of the racing F40, built by Michelotto as the evolution of the F40 LM. Commissioned in 1989 for endurance racing, including Le Mans, it ran a twin-turbo 2.9-litre V8 producing around 700 hp, with a top speed near 228 mph in a car weighing roughly 1,040 kg. The first two competition cars were F40 LMs; later cars were designated Competizione, and sources put the combined total at roughly 10 to 24. Like the LM, it was a competition machine rather than a catalogue car, so it never carried a public retail price.

With so few built and a direct link to Ferrari's late-1980s and 1990s racing effort, the Competizione sits at the very top of the F40 hierarchy. No Competizione-specific public sale is documented, but on the basis of F40 LM comparables its value is estimated at $8 million to $12 million or more. Values are set individually, by chassis, history and specification, and cars trade privately on application rather than through public listings.

With so few built, values are set individually by chassis history and specification, and cars trade privately on application.

No. Like the F40 LM, the Competizione was a Michelotto-built competition car rather than a catalogue model. It had no public retail price and was never sold new to private buyers in the ordinary sense.

Sources vary. The competition F40s, the LM and Competizione combined, total roughly 10 to 24. The first two cars were F40 LMs and later cars were built to Competizione specification, which makes the Competizione the rarer of the two.

The F40 LM is the racing F40 programme; the Competizione is its final, most developed evolution, built in even smaller numbers. Both are competition cars offered on application. See the F40 LM price page for the wider programme.

F40 Competiziones are traded privately and almost never appear in public listings. Browse the Ferrari opportunities represented off-market, or submit a search request and we will point you to the right cars and brokers.
