About the Maybach 57 S Xenatec Coupé

• When Daimler revived Maybach in the early 2000s, the 57 and 62 were conceived as chauffeur-driven limousines; a sporty two-door was never part of official product planning.
• By the late 2000s Maybach demand lagged expectations, and the factory had neither the capacity nor the economic case to add a coupé.
• The Xenatec Group of Weinsberg, a specialist in special vehicles and small-series coachbuilding, announced a luxury coupé on the Maybach 57 S in 2010, in cooperation with Daimler and Maybach.
• Design was led by Fredrik Burchhardt, who had already penned the Maybach Exelero, keeping a clear link to the Maybach line: long hood, elongated flanks and a coupé roof arch.
• The conversion was a near-complete body rebuild rather than a simple two-door cut: the B-pillar was moved back around 20 cm, with new frameless-window front doors, a fully rebuilt greenhouse, widened rear fenders and redesigned sills and bumpers.
• Only the basic front structure and parts of the rear were carried over; most of the body was newly developed and hand-built, at coachbuilding-at-factory-level standard.
• Mechanically it remained the 57 S: 6.0-litre V12 biturbo, around 450 kW / 612 hp, five-speed automatic, comfort-oriented chassis.
• The first prototype was completed at the end of 2010 and shown publicly at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show.
• Xenatec planned a small series of up to 100 cars at around €675,000 net, but Maybach was discontinued in 2012 and the series plan ended.
• Only eight Xenatec Coupés have been built to date, making it one of the rarest modern Maybach derivatives.
