Ferrari F40 LM 1994 for sale
It is rare to come across a Ferrari F40 LM on the market, and even more so when it is the last unit ever produced by Michelotto. This specific example, chassis #99401, shows only 3,000 kilometers on the odometer. Dressed in its iconic Rosso Corsa color, it was fully restored between 2013 and 2014 by the very same hands that originally built it.

Today, this vehicle is offered for sale by Bingo Sports, in Japan, in a condition close to new. Its price is not publicly displayed, but a private offer may be submitted for serious buyers.
Although no price or estimate is communicated for this car, it is known that a Ferrari F40 LM was sold at auction by RM Sotheby’s in 2015 for the price of $3,300,000 (Monterey 2015, Lot 116).
Last unit produced by Michelotto, this Ferrari F40 LM embodies the ultimate evolution of a myth. Factory restoration, 3,000 km, and a price reserved for connoisseurs.
The history ofof the Ferrari F40 LM #99401
The genesis of the F40 LM begins in the 1980s, when Charles Pozzi, Ferrari importer in France, wanted to field a competitive version of the F40 in the IMSA championship. At the time, Ferrari was focusing its efforts on Formula 1 and entrusted development to Michelotto, a long-standing partner based in Padua, already involved in transforming the 288 GTO into the Evoluzione version.

On this basis, Michelotto created a special series of lightened, F40 models prepared for racing, named F40 LM, in tribute to the 250 LM from the 1960s. Only 19 units were officially built. Chassis #99401, presented here, is an exception: often nicknamed the 20th F40 LM, it was produced in May 1994, nearly a year after the 19th chassis (#97904), making it the last F40 LM to come out of the factory.
Initially intended for Ferrari North America, the car was quickly exported to Japan. It has never raced, preserved carefully as a collector’s item. In 2013, it returned to Michelotto for a complete restoration, including bodywork, handled by Carrozzeria Nuova Rinascente — the same workshop that worked on the car during its initial delivery.
Today, the #99401 remains an intact testimony of this special lineage, with only 3,000 km driven since its creation.
Bodywork of thethe Ferrari F40 LM
The silhouette of this F40 LM remains faithful to the DNA of race cars developed for endurance. Its exterior is painted in Rosso Corsa , the iconic shade of the Scuderia, applied with precision during the full restoration carried out between 2013 and 2014.
The bodywork was entrusted to Carrozzeria Nuova Rinascente, successor to Carrozzeria Cognolato, who had already worked on the car during its production. The elements specific to the LM are clearly present: widened air intakes, a more aggressive front splitter, an adjustable rear wing, and lightened hoods. All panels are made of carbon fiber and Kevlar, reducing the weight of the car by 50 kg compared to the standard F40.
Every line asserts the track-oriented intent of this car. Chassis #99401, last produced in the series, embodies the most refined expression of this performance-oriented bodywork.
Interior of thethe Ferrari F40 LM #99401
The interior of this F40 LM remains true to its racing vocation: minimalist, functional, performance-oriented. The atmosphere is radically different from a road model. It features two bucket seats in Kevlar and carbon fiber, covered with black fireproof fabric and equipped with multipoint harnesses.
The dashboard is covered in black Alcantara, contrasted by aviation-style switches. The instrumentation is entirely analog, with gauges focused on engine speed and temperature. The central tunnel is reduced to the essentials, without any trim.
The door panels are replaced by simple composite plates, without conventional handles. Every detail evokes competition: integrated fire extinguisher, full roll cage, lightweight controls. This configuration conforms to the LM version, lightened to meet the FIA standards of the time.
Engine of thethe Ferrari F40 LM #99401
Under its carbon rear hood lies a heavily modified version of the twin-turbo V8 engine from the standard F40. It is a 90° V8 of 2,936 cm³, mounted in a rear mid-longitudinal position.

This engine, prepared by Michelotto with the technical support of Ferrari, retains the IHI twin-turbo configuration, but receives larger turbos, an optimized injection and electronic management system, as well as improved cooling. The compression ratio is adjusted to accommodate this increased power.
Result: power increased to over 700 horsepower, compared to 478 hp for the standard model. The block retains its raw and explosive character, but becomes more stable and usable on track thanks to numerous internal optimizations.
Performance of thethe Ferrari F40 LM chassis #99401
Thanks to its reduced weight (1,050 kg) and power increased to over 700 hp, the F40 LM reaches extremely high performance levels, even by today’s standards.
Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h is achieved in about 3.1 seconds, with massive torque available early thanks to the reworked turbos. The 0 to 200 km/h drops below 10 seconds. Top speed exceeds 370 km/h, made possible by revised aerodynamics and longer gearing.
Braking is handled by oversized ventilated discs, and the chassis features a full racing setup, including adjustable suspension and a reinforced differential. On track, the F40 LM is stiff, brutal, yet precise. It responds to every input without filter, in a purely analog driving philosophy.
How many FerrariFerrari F40 LM were made ?
Officially, Michelotto produced 19 units of the Ferrari F40 LM between 1989 and 1993. However, a twentieth chassis — the #99401 presented here — was built in May 1994, nearly a year after the last official model (#97904).
This final car was not planned in the initial series. It was manufactured at the request of Ferrari North America, making it an exception. Due to superstition, number 13 was deliberately omitted, explaining the numbering “20 out of 19.”
Thus, although the officially recognized number remains 19, collectors agree that 20 F40 LM exist, and that the #99401 is the last and most refined example.
