Ferrari F80: A hypercar over $3.9 Million

Ferrari F80

After legendary models such as the GTO, F40, F50, and LaFerrari, Ferrari continues to push the limits with its latest model, the Ferrari F80. This limited-edition hypercar stands as the most powerful vehicle ever produced by the prancing horse brand. With its hybrid engine and outstanding performance, the Ferrari F80 embodies all of Ferrari’s expertise.

The Ferrari F80 will be produced in 799 units, with a base price of €3.6 million-$3,9 million.

Ferrari F80 performanceperformance

The Ferrari F80 not only matches its predecessors but surpasses them. Equipped with a 3.0-liter V6 hybrid engine set at 120°, this car delivers 900 hp at 8,750 rpm, with 850 Nm of torque at 5,550 rpm. This V6 is complemented by two electric motors—one on the front axle generating 142 hp and another, the MGU-K, producing 95 hp at the rear, bringing the total power output to 1,200 hp. This model adopts electric turbos for the first time, an innovation that enhances responsiveness and performance.

The Ferrari F80 can reach 100 km/h in 2.15 seconds, 200 km/h in 5.75 seconds, and has a top speed of 350 km/h. These figures surpass even those of the LaFerrari and SF90, making the F80 the most powerful road-going Ferrari ever produced.

This engine, similar to that of the Ferrari 499P Endurance car, shares many technical features. Ferrari developed a new approach for this engine, allowing for a 20% increase in combustion chamber pressure compared to the 296 GTB.

The chassis of the Ferrari F80 is a masterpiece of lightweight design. It features a carbon fiber monocoque combined with aluminum trellises at the front and rear. This choice of materials results in a 5% weight reduction compared to the LaFerrari, while increasing rigidity by 50%. With these optimizations, the F80’s dry weight is only 1,525 kg, with a weight distribution of 42.2% at the front and 57.8% at the rear.

The rear diffuser, the front triplane wing, the flat floor, and the famous S-Duct work together to generate 1,000 kg of downforce at 250 km/h, with 460 kg on the front. The rear diffuser, which is 1.80 meters long—a record—contributes to more than half of the total downforce, producing 285 kg of pressure.

Ferrari F80 designdesign inspired by aerospace

The sleek and extreme lines of the Ferrari F80 are reminiscent of aerospace influences. As with the Ferrari 12Cilindri, the F80 exhibits clear references to elements borrowed from fighter jets.

Unlike other models, the headlights are camouflaged within a black screen, which serves both optical and aerodynamic functions. The wheel arch, ending with a vertical panel detached from the door, pays homage to the visual language of the Ferrari F40, one of the brand’s historic icons.

Ferrari F80 dimensionsdimensions

The dimensions of the F80 are as follows: 4.84 meters long, 2.06 meters wide, and 1.14 meters high, with a wheelbase of 2.67 meters. The carbon body helps maintain a relatively low weight. At the rear, the active wing and diffuser are integrated into a smooth and flowing architecture.

Ferrari F80: AA Formula 1-inspired interior

The interior of the Ferrari F80 is directly inspired by the world of Formula 1. The "1+1" cockpit configuration clearly reflects this influence, with staggered seats, the passenger being slightly behind the driver. This setup not only reduces the width of the cabin but also improves aerodynamics and the overall weight of the car.

The dashboard and steering wheel, also inspired by racing, incorporate minimalist controls. The steering wheel has been redesigned to improve visibility and driving feel. Unlike previous Ferraris, physical buttons replace digital touch surfaces, providing better interaction and a more tactile driving experience.

Ferrari F80 HybridHybrid Powertrain

The Ferrari F80 uses a combination of powertrains borrowed from Formula 1 and endurance racing (24 Hours of Le Mans with the 499P). The combustion engine is a 3.0-liter V6 at 120°, paired with a hybrid system comprising three electric motors. For the first time in a road-going Ferrari, a 48-volt electric motor is placed between the turbines and compressors of the combustion engine. This technology, derived from the MGU-H system in Formula 1, increases turbocharger power while reducing response time.

The two front electric motors, each producing 142 hp, along with the rear MGU-K unit, provide the F80 with all-wheel drive. The system is powered by an 800-volt battery with a capacity of 2.3 kWh, delivering impressive performance while reducing emissions.

Ferrari F80 BrakingBraking System

The Ferrari F80 is equipped with CCM-R Plus brakes, developed with Brembo, which use long carbon fibers to improve thermal resistance and disc durability. The front brakes measure 408 mm, and the rear brakes are 390 mm, offering braking power worthy of a Formula 1 car. The active suspension system is directly inspired by the one used on the Ferrari Purosangue, independently controlling each wheel via electric actuators. This system manages aerodynamics, comfort, and driving dynamics in real-time.
