The McLaren Elva draws its inspiration from the open-cockpit racing cars developed by Bruce McLaren in the 1960s. Its name, "Elva," is derived from "elle va," which means "she goes" in French, paying homage to the lightweight and fast cars designed by the brand's founder. At the time, due to a lack of personnel, the production of these models (McLaren M1A, McLaren M1B, and McLaren M1C) was subcontracted to the British car manufacturer Elva.
